Play or stay home
I haven't been playing long, but I all ready have one serious gripe about the game: there are waaaaaay to many people who quit story missions in the middle of them. The thing that really bothers me about this is that the excuse I hear the most is: "My mom says I have to quit now." Now I'm not saying people shouldn't listen to their mother, but if she is going to stop you from playing at all, then you should be playing Guild Wars or any other MMORPG. This may sound harsh, but think about this: What if you were on a sports team and your mother or whoever made you stop playing in the middle of a game? Your coach would kick you off the team. The same could be said about your job, or any other commitment you may engage in. The reason for this is because you leave people who depend on you hanging, and can not be relied upon. When you play MMORPGs and joins groups, you fill a role that is vital to the success of that group. This is emphasised in GW. If a group fails because their healer, or tank, or nuker left, then they have wasted thier time playing, plus the time they have to take finding a new member, and starting the mission over. To sum this up: if you are not mature enough to manage your time, play something by yourself.

Welcome to the world of MMORPG. Real people have real lives. That is why most play with a guild and not pugs. I understand that sometimes you think the mission will only take about 30 minutes and it ends up being 60-90 minutes which you did not plan for. Your gripe it noted and has been said many times in these forums so you are not alone. Most just play with henches, they wont leave your group.

It does suck. I completly agree - I don't know how many times i would go into a mission and have to start over beacuse "my computer needs to restart", "i have to go eat dinner", "i have to go get ready for work".
But it does happen, and after it happens so much, you just deal with it. Try doing it with guildies - people you know you can depend on more so then pugs, and with some missions, go with henchies.
One thing i will say though, is sometimes when that happens, and it takes a few tries at a mission beacuse of quitters or whatever the reason, once you get the mission completed - it feels awesome

Just FYI Tommarrow, I have played the original Everquest and Everquest 2. I also play City of Heroes and Villains while I'm playing Guildwars, so there is no need to "welcome" me to MMORPG's. You said that a mission can sometimes take 60-90 mins. I laugh at that. Task Force missions in COH usually take around 4 hours, and people know this going in. I'm not even going to go into how long EQ can take. As for all the people who felt they needed to point out that you play from home, it's called a metaphor people.

This person = 12 years old..Come on. People have lives as well as play games simple as that. Some are more into games then others but that's their way. If you think some people have no lives cause they play games..Well guess what thye probably have a better chance job wise then your little ass. Besides it has been proven that games enhance your reflexes as well as responce time. You may wonder "How does that help you with jobs?" Well heres your answer..People whom play games usually have a wide amount of imagination. As well as creativity. Therefore being able to come up with a wide variety of ideas.
People who play games more then others just have more time. That doesn't mean they have no life. It makes me laugh when someone says that. Guess what..That's what they wanna do. Your not going to change them by saying something so feeble.

People play games because they choose too. Not Anets fault for people deciding too play a little more then other players. Sure saying t\too get a life makes you sound all bravado or w/e..Instead you make yourself look like a fool. Obivously you don't have a "life" if your sitting here replying to threads and playing as well...Oh wait..Lemme guess your gonna say "I do have a life." HAHAHA..Well then you know what others are saying and thinking when you say the same thing. Word of advice...Get out of forums, games, and this world for that matter..if you don't have an open mind about other people playing more and not doing things you are then perhaps they have a reason.

Thanks but I am not 12. I did not tell him to get a life. I said real people have real lives meaning that sometimes life gets in the ways of gaming. If the OP is so used to played MMORPG then why the F*** is he whining in the first place. He should be very used to this sort of thing happening.

This is where you're being idiotic. I didn't say "Get a life.", I said "People have lives". I play Guild Wars often, but if somethnig comes up I'm not going to put Guild Wars first.
I don't like the fact that someone on a forum tries to give me advice about living.
You've come on to be an Imbecile to me. Hurray for you.
Now, stop ruining this topic.

We started and about 10 mins in he deciedes to leave. His excuse was "my mom says I have to go to dinner." Now, assuming he was telling the truth, don't you think he would know about when dinner is? So why did he start the group? Another example would be a guy who stopped playing so that he could "eat ice cream." He asked how to follow people so that he would still come along and sponge the exp though. I once saw a guy who went afk as soon as the mission started and never came on. Mind you all these examples are in Guild Wars, just trying to do the frost gate.
|
Now, that's understandable, and annoying. It's why if I'm going to do any quests or missions, I'll surely avoid PuGs. These are just people who sort of only care about themselves.

Woot! Haha. I like this topiv now. Sure say whatever you like. I'm an ass I know but its my nature. I see things said and overreact very easily. Beeen a while since I was last called an imbecile. But hey congradulations your the first today. Would you like a cookie?
Alright to stay on topic. There are a few things that bother me as well. Most common I see when someone leaves is the dreaded Error 7! Bum bum bummm. I've gotten that a few times during missions and does that suck royal. That just happens and people who are in the group should be able to tell they didn't leave willingly.

He isn't "whinning"..He is like most people stating his opinion on events in GW. Although to some this will ring in their ears like whinning. Too me this is far from it. An dhave seen some people really whine to the point where you wish you could smack them through your monitor.

If a person leaves during the mission and he/she wasn't an important asset of the team I just go on like nada happened. Me and some friends went from Droknar's Forge with a full group with two people leaving to the Copperhammer Mines which just means it didn't matter.
What I am simply trying to say is that if the person who left wasn't very important to the group then just go on and finish what you are doing. People have lives (I don't...) and that means responsibilities to deal with;which in everyone's case sucks because they're enjoying themselves and do not wish to leave.

That's MMORPG's for ya. And, if you are annoyed with random PUGs leaving during your mission then go with Guildies or ask the group if they have enough time - that's what I do when I go FoW or Tombs.
Also, if you keep failing a mission with random PUGs due to bad co-ordination - don't go with them. Go with a organized group that knows what to do, when to do it and where to do it at.

Not necceserily. Some dinners take longer to cook than others, and he may not of known which dinner he was having and how long it takes to cook // he may not have a set dinner time so he would not know when his dinner should be roughly ready.

And? Did he leave? No. Did he help you before he stopped to 'eat his ice-cream'? I assume so, yes. Also, what's wrong with gaining exp, if we did'nt gain exp then we would be doing Thunderhead Keep and Ring of Fire missions with lvl 1-5s :S

hmm... see i just chalk it all up to the fact that
1. people suck
2. people play gw (and other mmogs)
3. sucking = frustration.
such is life!
